After all the talk around town it is official – the new 3MP talk station will be known as MTR 1377 (Melbourne Talk Radio). The simple callsign will be sister station to SEN (Sports Entertainment Network) and a co-venture with Sydney’s successful 2GB and 2CH.
Melbourne’s Herald Sun has confirmed that ex-2UE announcer Steve Price will host a four hour breakfast show on the new station. But will this still be enough to topple 3AW from it’s dominating spot as Melbourne’s top talk station? Or will MTR follow the same path as 3AK? According to the article, the station and staff are in it for the long haul.
MTR’s biggest advantage is that there is most definitely room for another talk station in Melbourne.
